This is probably the biggest upset in the history of the English language. For shame, Mattel.
That’s a large part of what makes scrabble challenging.
Almost every combination of characters will count now.

The article does say that Mattel “will continue to sell a board with the original rules”, and I doubt that the new rules will be adopted at club and tournament levels.
