Hi Everyone,
Here’s the second draft of the term 2 schedule - it has changed a bit since Sunday’s programming meeting, 2 films have had to come off - those being the new Wallace and Gromit film and Paris is Burning. W&G is going to the BBC before we can screen it and PIB no longer has theatrical rights. I’ve filled the slots as best I could, and swapped out some films for others that provide better diversity. The changes have been highlighted in orange for easy identification. This schedule will undoubtedly change again by next week but please share any thoughts and feelings about the changes! Also any suggestions for the FFM film for the beginning of term would be great!
Thanks everyone!

FFM could now be paddington 3? fits a similar vibe to wallace and gromit perhaps and would be fun and chill for the start of term
major fan of a lot of the new stuff on here think it’s looking really good!!

i think the new draft is looking great! the ‘before’ trilogy could do pretty well, not sure where you’re thinking a trilogy eve could go but i think it would be nice to have. i back tangled as an end of term ffm, think it would do very well, and i think paddington 3 could also work to fill wallace and gromit.
could the new lord of the rings fit into the lord of the rings allnighter? i know it would make a really long night but thats also a lot of lotr if they’re separate showings.
someone messaged us on instagram a couple weeks ago asking for anything back to the future (but had last year for allni), star wars, indiana jones or harrison ford/michael j fox coming up this year so if we want an old film then could fall back on one of these maybe 35mm too. guaranteed to do well, i’m personally not bothered either way but people have reached out asking for this kind of classic.
if we’re able to try and start captioning more new releases more regularly (not just foreign language films) i think that would be amazing, i know we’re working on getting equipment atm but just something to keep in mind if possible :))

Thoughts on Milk (2008) as a queer history film? Not one I previously thought of but since we can’t get Paris is Burning maybe we could replace with something along the same lines? (from doc to biopic?). I haven’t seen it but it might be a bit heavier than what we currently have on the schedule, but seems like an important figure in LGBT history

In the programming meeting on Sunday we decided not to do a trilogy evening and do 2 double bills instead. This isn’t set in stone however. The before trilogy is tricky to get and I think it’s in holdover hell atm

Would definitely love this, given it is for LGBT history month, having a historical film would be great. Harvey Milk is an important figure in LGBT history yet is not largely talked about today, so it would be a great person to bring focus to. Would definitely back this!

isn’t there usually a pub quiz in term 2 as well? are we not planning on doing one next term?
Um yes. Completely forgot to add that on. Will shift some things around
i back milk! it would be nice to keep something more biographical for lgbtq+ history month and as much as queer history isn’t all heavy there should be a good balance
Emilia Perez on 35mm is a fantastic addition! I think there could be a better option for a Hitchcock film than Rear Window if you wanted Hitchcock specifically? I know they’re the obvious ones but I think psycho or Vertigo would do better and I’d personally rather see those in a cinema but yeah I obvs don’t speak for everyone

I feel like Anora would be a stronger double than Emilia Perez (in terms of films with similar vibes) although I see why it’s there for 35mm reasons, just think it will lose out by already being on Netflix
Not really sure about The Gay Deceivers, never really heard about it tbh but I’m not sure how much of a draw it would be and it’s very accessible online - Milk seems like a stronger pick there

ANOTHER RECOMMENDATION: I can most likely probably definitely get all of PantoSoc to come buy tickets if we do D.E.B.S. pleaseeeeeee please please please

How about moving one or even both of Ran and Solaris to a Sunday because they are very long and I like sleep and also at least some of our audience probably likes sleep? Also tbf I feel like things like HUNDREDS OF BEAVERS and How To Make a Million… probably work better as “after a long day of lectures” films.

Right, I’ve had chance to catch up with this semi-properly (gutted I was away for the programming meeting mk 2). No hills being died on here, just Vibes:
- I wonder about Mulholland Dr. – we did it two years ago on a double and it got ~20 people combined over the early and the late, including crew. I do sorta suspect it’d do at least better than that but I also wonder if it might be worth picking a different Lynch rather than recycling the same one? I sorta get that these are contradictiory impulses.
- My Own Private Idaho – don’t wanna dunk on it too hard bc I think it’s a sort of drama we’re not super flush with, but I guess it doesn’t have to be this one and iirc this came out of spitballing for LGBTQUIA+ History Month so I’m wondering if there’s something similar that we’re more Passionate about?
- Idk, I’m a big fan of its inclusion but I maybe struggle to see how we’d sell The Handmaiden as LGBTQUIA+ history other than it being set in Olden Times – maybe worth a swap w/ Happy Together, where I think you could talk about the film’s place in 90s cinema/the Hong Kong New Wave. Then again, I guess we do want more woman-featuring films here but also idk, the film isn’t by a woman. Maybe it could go in My Own Private Idaho’s place and D.E.B.S could go here? I’m aware this is more a series of vague thoughts than an actual suggestion, sorry.

gonna bullet point a couple things:
- is there a reason we don’t have rocky horror anymore?
- i think anora would be stronger as a double than a monday slot, it seems to do well and i’ve heard more hype for anora than emilia pérez.
- i think milk would be a better fit than the gay deceivers, but would love rocky horror even more. obviously if we physically cannot get the rights/print for it then understandable
- i think kieran has a good point about super long films being on sundays, hundreds of beavers could still be ffm but doesn’t necessarily have to be a sunday i guess?
i’ll probably have more thoughts later but just a couple brain dump things for now

Unfortunately we can’t get Rocky Horror due to it being on holdback ahead of anniversary rerelease, so we won’t be able to do it until that happens.

We can move some of the longer films to sundays, I think that would be a good move and wasn’t something I clocked whist putting the schedule together.
I’m not sure which other Lynch film would go in the place of Mulholland Drive other than Eraserhead and although I think it would be good to have on the schedule at some point, I’m aware of the balance between male and female led films on the schedule. Also it might have had a bit of a resurgence since Chappel Roan, idk maybe i’m delulu though.
I’ve been having a think about the Handmaiden and D.E.B.S, I think the swap would work and that would still keep the balance intact, we could then move the Handmaiden to either Hausu’s slot or My Own Private Idaho’s slot and then find a different film for Hausu or other way around.

I’m also guessing it wouldn’t be ideal to have a 35mm right after a 70mm? If we swap Solaris and Hundreds of Beavers it means that Amadeus 70mm is sandwiched by 35mm, with another 70mm a few days after that. We could move Solaris later in term, swapping with Vertigo maybe?
