Autumn Term Schedule 2008

It is really bad!

When has that ever stopped anyone?

When has that ever stopped Aiden? :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey!! :x

OK. But I warned you.

I went to a wedding last week. The bride and groom were an aerial and a TV. The ceremony was poor, but the reception was awesome :!:

If you couldn’t guess the end of the joke from the very start you need your head examining.

(I find it quite funny that Seb is meant to take this forum thread along to this weeks exec meeting to gauge peoples opinions so it looks like they care about the little people. I hope he reads that joke out.)

Wow, just wow, La Antena looks absolutely awesome. Its like Metropolis, but presumably without the socialist propaganda, and with a dash of man with a movie camera. It looks crazy, I really can’t wait to see it!

I have to agree. Some of out shock bestsellers include P.S. I love you, which most people spent the run up to insulting. So our views at WSC don’t particularly coincide with that of the student body.
Hmmm… P.S. I love you was absolute pants, so pants that having to unsuccessfully find a dry bit to pick up that mouldy soggy tissue by at the end was the highlight of the film. Can’t believe it got such an amazing turnout… I feel I have to quote a beloved hero: “People like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis. You can’t trust people” (Super Hans). I think we should just show it at a loss regardless, making back our money is a problem for Fridays and Sundays… and maybe Robbie the Reel. Oh, and where the fuck is Robbie the fucking reel? He’s gone to the dark side since his involvement in the contest, and the ‘roids perhaps. It’s a slippery slope kids.

Robbie has had academic posters to design and telescope applications to write. :frowning:

But so did you!

George… Are you trying to tell us YOU are in fact, Robbie the Reel?

No but I can’t be expected to do my PhD on my own.

Language Sarah !

Sounds like someone else may be on ‘the roids’.

P.S I Love you was an appalling film, (even the trailer made me feel ill) However, as a Society we cannot simply rely on the double’s to pull us through, especially next term when about half are relatively weak.

Luckily we have secured sponsorship for the next year (and possibly an additional year). But we shouldn’t get complacent about which films we show with regards to turnover as things may not always be so good.

That said we should also find spots where we can show innovative film, and generally broaden the opportunities and experiences on offer.

DIET COKE FUELLED RANT OVER

Unfortunately we can’t help the rubbish that Hollywood has given us this summer. The best we can do is improve it with some quality classics. Hopefully next year wont be a repeat of the disastrous 06-07 year :s Lets hope for some decent events and publicity to pull us through

lol. I thought ‘roids’ were hemorrhoids. Though those might make you aggressive too.

In previous years we have bulked up a weak schedule with some themed showings, for example one year we showed pretty much every tarantino film in one term, just one a week, and publicised it…

To be honest I don’t think the midweeks are too bad (I have heard of almost everything which is normally a good sign). Its just that there aren’t really enough good double showings.

Anyone else with any other thoughts?

I’ll take a print-out of this forum to the exec meeting tomorrow, but shall be printing it a tad in advance of the meeting, eg around 4pm, so get your thoughts in asap!

I will have my laptop in the exec meeting, but wifi on campus isn’t as guaranteed as you’d like and i don’t know what it’ll be like in S0.17!

right. long shot, seeing as it looks a bit standard in film stakes. the forbidden kingdom - jet li and jackie chan, languages are mandarin and english, according to imdb, therefore poss qualifying as a (semi-)foreign film. also got 7.3 on imdb scorecards. possibly popular? rush hour 3 got 120 peeps in on a fri late. ??

I think Jeffrey suggested that before. I agree it looks like its worth showing.

That really is an interesting yet quite worrying fact :!: Kudos on the epos stalking Kathryn  Pierre would be proud!

I am. Still quite a way to go to meet my standards, but I am proud
In terms of suggestions, my Frenchness (sorry) leads me to go for Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis (English: Welcome to the Sticks).
It only had a limited release in the UK, but from news reports (it’s quite a phenomenon this side of the Channel), even American people who saw it loved it…
Don’t know if we can get it, but if we can, I reckon it could do quite well. The plot, translated in British terms, would be about that of a Londoner getting a mutation to, say, a mix of Scotland for the weather and Cornwall for the remoteness… :stuck_out_tongue: and how, erm, confused he gets. Quite a good comedy.

Sounds interesting Pierre… I like the way that I give a simple name-drop and you respond within 15 mins!

Well I’ve been reading the forums for a while, never thinking of any good occasion to reply. So you just gave me a way to catch up a bit with RWin on the post count (plus I’m starting to get worried by Helen, she’s a frenetic poster these days… exams procrastination?)
